The incredible speed of learning, online

Is it just my imagination or do we learn quicker online?

Yesterday I was reading about Gilly Salmon’s 5 Stage Model of e-learning and it struck me that we move very quickly through stages that seem – in the “real” world – to take far longer.  As an e-learner, I feel that I often move from the initial stages of accessing platforms and working out how to use them, straight into setting up profiles and simultaneously exchanging information with others online (stage 3 already!) and before we know it we’re discussing concepts on discussion boards and starting to achieve our personal goals (bingo – at stage 5!)

No, it’s not always easy (technical hitches anyone?) and not always quick, but I’m pondering, is e-learning allowing us to (or making us?) learn faster?  Just a thought…for now.
